In our last Newsletter we mentioned an appeal for Knitted Easter Egg covers, FACT were confident we would reach our target of 1000 covers by Easter. Thank you to all the fabulous knitters we actually received 1781 items, mostly little chicks, all with their own funny little cheeky personalities, but also bunnies, hats, hens, shirts and even little minions! We received 689 creme eggs too, along with donations to buy more! All of us here at FACT have been overwhelmed by your generosity and astonished at how many knitters and knitting groups we have in our community, even ones that meet in a local pub, also a local Fire Station who made up some fantastic baskets of chicks for us too.
Jess visited the RVI’s Children’s Ward just before Easter and took a chick and egg for each child in hospital. The children and the nurses at the RVI thought they were fantastic, your generosity bringing a smile to the children’s faces. FACT gave a chick and egg to each of the children who come to use our services, they thought they were so cute!
FACT attended Easter Fairs and egg hunts with the knitted chicks. Local businesses have also been involved by taking some chicks under their wing for donations. They flew to FACT shops too, where donations have been made for them. We have raised over £1000 so far! Amazing! These funds will be used to extend our services for children, and to provide more days out for families who have been affected by cancer.
We held one of these days out for families known to FACT in February. Joy our Inclusion Facilitator said “We took a group of 6 families to the cinema during the February half term to see The Lego Batman Movie. Thank you to the Odeon Metrocentre who donated the discounted tickets. We all had a lovely afternoon at the cinema while it was pouring with rain outside. Thank you so much for the messages we received after the movie, we really appreciate the comments and love spending time with you all”. Here are some of the children’s comments from the day: “Thank you, thank you, just thank you xx” . “My favourite bit was Batman’s password, Ironman sucks!”. “Thanks so much for today… much welcomed chill time. x ” ” I loved it! It was very funny”.
Along with the funds raised from knitted chicks after visiting Whickham Co-op, where we were given a donation of 50 creme eggs, the Co-op Local Community Fund has also awarded FACT £2921 with the support of the fantastic shoppers of Whickham Co-op, thank you.
This will enable FACT to expand our services including new activities for children and teenagers, and funding our vital support coffee mornings each week.
